Knitting ~ Therapy for your heart and soul ... The journey as rewarding as the destination

Hi, I am Kathleen (Kathee) Van Horn. I live in Southern California. I am a church secretary - office manager and have a business as a graphic artist. My passion is yarn art - knitting & crocheting. I write and design patterns, and I am trying to import Diakeito yarns for your local yarn shops. Be sure to ask for them so we can keep them in the US.

I love to teach knitting & crocheting. I hold classes in my home most Friday nights. We have a blast, and have become quite close. ... I am rarely found without my needles - even take them to the post office, fast food drive throughs, grocery store, and of course, the doctor's offices ... Makes waiting much better ... don't even mind it. If you would like to learn more about me, click here.

HOT PLATE
FOCAL POINT

I am so glad nobody is reading my posts. I am so embarrassed. I just found 2 more unfinished projects. At this rate, I will never start another new project! Suffice it to say, I will just post pictures as I pick up a project to finish. Amoeba is almost done, I finished the neckline, have 3 more motifs for the bottom then edge the armholes and hem. Might finish it tonight. I did finish the Hot plate ... Maybe I'll post a picture, just so I feel better. I'll get a picture this weekend.

I would love any comments. Although I am still fiddling with my visitor book, click on the link and leave a message ...

JUNE 22, 2009 - OMGOSH!

I can't believe it, but I found 4 more unfinished projects. Shame, shame on me! A Summer strips top in Diakeito Cotton Bliss, a mitered yoke summer top in Diakeito Diacosta, a Princess scarf - 100% silk(Diakeito Fair Silk) and Diakeito Metallic Misterio, and a winter coat - Diakeito Rococo and Diakeito Tasmanian Merino. I'll post on each of these as I continue to clear through the clutter ...

Amoeba tank is almost finished. I decided to make it a little longer. I'll post another picture this afternoon, when I get back from work et al ...

June 20, 2009 UNFINISHED SHAME!!

Life sometimes gets away from me, and as I start to go through some of my clutter, I find all these unfinished projects. I vow to finish one before I start a new project, and then to finish them all before the end of summer. Shame on me ... It's just that when I see yarn, it speaks to me and I just grab it up and start working away ... what is it going to reveal?
garden border I started this about 6 months ago. Garden Border ... because of the row of flowers at the neckline. Worked from the top down (obvious! - sorry) Anyway, yarn is Diakeito Fontana, which is probably why I put it down. It is absolutely beautiful and so soft. Nice and lightweight for summer, but has been discontinued by Diakeito. So I had to put it down to work on "live" yarns. Well, I'm picking it up next (after Amoeba) and will finish it next.
hotplate

But first, I have been asked by one of my students to add a crochet border to a jacket she just made, and since I will have my crochet hook out, I think I will finish my hot plate. I made a bunch of these for Christmas gifts last year, and really liked them and wanted one for myself ... shame on me, as it is unfinished and only has a few more rounds to go ... I hope to finish it tonight ... then back to Amoeba and Garden Border...

And there's more ... I'll post pictures in a bit ...

I started this a while back to use up some odd balls of Diakeito Santa Fe and Diacosta ... It will be beautiful once it is finished, I think I'll call this FOCAL POINT I'll be working it same time as Amoeba...

Amoeba Tank

This darling is another fun project that works up quickly. I'm still in the process of writing the pattern. The yarn I'm using for the Ameba Tank top is Diakeito Cotton Refre #103, dusty rose, soft pink, splashes of tan ... very interesting. 100% cotton, so it's great for summer wear.

Carlsbad Bag
I started this faire isle bag, but am going to redo it. I want to work it in the round so more colors show in fewer rows. I also want to make the bag much bigger. I will add 2 more flower motifs on each side . I am using the Diakeito Rococo #104, and Diakeito Tasmanian Merino (soooo soft) #730 black. but first ... PREVIOUS POSTS

RCC & DD

These two yarns are telling me they want to be a mosaic cardigan. I'm thinking a 4 x 4 pattern, maybe 8 rows then switch ... I tried swatching a 2 x 2, but as usual, want to change it a bit ...

WINTER PATHS ... Maybe the wrong season for this pattern name, (100% wool) but I'm enjoying it in Spring ...

May, 2009

I don't know how writers do it ... I am staring at this page and wondering just where do I start. So I'm going to tell you what I am working on.
WINTER PATHS ... It is a really fun, easy and yet impressive pullover. I am using Diakeito Rococo #110. It is a wonderful combination of gray, blue, black, white and cocoa. It is so soft, in spite of being 100% wool. I have another sweater in this yarn, in another color way, and I just love it. I am almost finished with this one. Here are some pieces in progress

Isn't it wonderful the way the colors work together. Diakeito has a way with colors, they work so well! This sweater is done in sections - that work up quickly because they are relative small. The back only took me 3-4 nights. Once the sections were finished, I gently steamed them then crocheted them together with a simple chain and single crochet pattern.
Here is the back with the sleeves in position:w sleeves

Tonight I hope to finish the front
June 1 2009...
I finished the front and the neckline. Just started the seaming ...
neckline
This picture of the neckline is before blocking. This weekend I will take a picture of the finished sweater!
Friday nights, I host a knitting class/social. I usually have 3-4 students, but it is open for more. If they allow me, I will post a picture next week. What an eclectic group of women. One of my knitters, Maxine, is 87 years old. She comes for the socializing and of course, the cookies, candy, and tea. She doesn't get much knitting done, but she has some great stories.
Janet is traveling this week - she's doing a trade show in Las Vegas ... so she won't be here this week. And actually, I may cancel this week's class. My husband was in the hospital for over a week, and I may take a little time for our mental health ... But we have a great time.

Finish!! Really fun pattern. I will probably make it again, in a different color.
